What will our students accomplish?
The virtues of having a pure education need not be mentioned, for the times themselves have shown that it is through education alone that the seeds of great thinking, foresight, and wisdom come to fruition. It is in their light that an individual is able to walk the path of success. The value of Islamic scholars is much more than academic experts in other fields, for these experts cater for us in this life, whilst the Ulama give us advice and guide us in this life as well as the next.
Shaykh Abu ‘l-Hasan ‘Ali al-Nadwi (d. 1420/1999) says:
"The art of leading a good, useful, and dignified life consists basically of God-awareness, humanitarianism, self-restraint, and willingness to subordinate one’s own advantage to the common good. Unselfish interest in the welfare of others, respect for mankind, the urge to protect the life, property and honor of fellow human beings, preference for duties over rights, defense of the weak and the down-trodden, the strength to stand up against the oppressors, firmness in opposition to those who have nothing to be proud of save power and wealth, and the refusal to be over-awed by them, the courage to speak the truth at all times and in respect of one’s own country, belief in the All-Knowing and All-Seeing Power, and anxiety of being recreated after death and called upon to render a full account of one’s doings on the earth. These are the essential conditions of a good and noble life, the fundamental requirements of a healthy society and a strong and honorable nation. To arrange for training and instruction in these attributes and to create an environment that may be conducive to their development is the primary responsibility of educational institutions."
Students who complete the ʿĀlimiyyah Programme are trained and mentored to:
- ❖Serve as the full-time Imam or religious leader of a community.
- ❖Develop and teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of Islamic studies and curricula.
- ❖Contribute to the international compendium of Islamic scholarly research and literature.
- ❖Address Islamic legal and social issues unique to the experience of this country.
- ❖Engage with the diverse community clearly and effectively.
- ❖Establish productive and beneficial institutions of spiritual growth, education, and mentorship.
- ❖Move onto Masters and/or education programme within the Islamic scholarly context.
- ❖Pursue further graduate studies in Humanities, philosophy, global affairs, behavioral science, journalism or any other modern science, seeking reform and progression through the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ
It is prayed that Allāh Most High benefits the Ummah, and at large, humanity, by way of this programme and may it be a great source of treasure in the hereafter for the students, teachers and all those who have given their support, Ameen.
